Ampule

A long-term storage device manufactured by the Engineer race to be used for containing the Black Goo chemical weapon. These ampules provided room for four glass phials filled with the Black Goo in a stasis with stable atmospheric and temperature conditions. The system can only provide these conditions if the Ampules are placed in a network of rows, with the Ampules situated at a distance of 0.9652 meters from each other. The atmospheric seal is fragile and can be broken by displacing or opening a single Ampule, releasing the substance in the process.

On LV-223, approximately around 100 AD, ampules were used to store the Black Goo at both a pyramid-like storage facility and an Engineer ship in a subterranean hangar connected to the facility. A fatal accident wiped out the staff of the facility, possibly caused by accidentally breaking the seal and releasing the weapon.

In 2093, a human expedition arriving aboard the science vessel Prometheus discovered the Ampules while exploring the pyramid on LV-223. The atmospheric seal was broken by the android David, and the Black Goo was released into the facility. The android subsequently smuggled one Ampule back to the ship for study.

On Nov 5, 1730, a Yautja lands on the planet LV-1201 to hunt Kiande Amedha and discovers a strange object. He learns of a strange Artifact built by "Pilots" (Space Jockeys) which can control the Kiande Amedha. Arriving at the Artifact Activation chamber, the Yautja activates the Artifact, giving him the power to influence Kiande Amedha. However, an invisible force-field was also activated. This prevents any Kiande Amedha from coming anywhere near it and kills those that do.

The Collector encountered in 2192 wore a spacesuit with a much more bulky and conventional design than that of the Engineers., lending further credence to speculations that the two subspecies might have developed in staggeringly different directions.

Holograms

  • Prometheus. 20th Century Fox, 2012. Movie.

Holograms are non-physical imagery brought to life by advanced technology. These can either be 3D or 2D but do not require glass or screens, as they use light to show up. Holograms are used by both humans and Engineers for various purposes, such as visual maps and to play back recorded visual messages.

The "Ghost" Engineers were holographic "ghosts" of a crew who died on board the Derelict after inhaling the black substance. The crew wanted to escape aboard the Derelict in order to use the black liquid to kill the life they had created on Earth.

The Sarcophagus is an Engineer hypersleep chamber capable of keeping an Engineer alive for a great length of time. When in use, tubes supplying oxygen and nitrogen connect to their bio-suit.

Otherwise, it is presummed that it works in a similar manner to the cryo-beds used by humans.
