The USCSS Nostromo, a refinery tanker carrying 20 million tonnes of mineral ore, rumbles through the cosmos on its way back from Thedus to Earth. Executive Officer Kane, Ship Navigator Lambert, Captain Dallas, Science Officer Ash, Warrant Officer Ripley (with ship cat Jones), Engineer Parker, and Technician Brett make up the crew.

According to Ash's secret programming, "MU-TH-UR" had awoken the crew from hypersleep early because its sensors had detected an electromagnetic abnormality.

Kane is the first to wake up, feeling half-dead, and prepares coffee while the rest of the group gathers around the breakfast table. "Has anyone ever told you that you look dead?" Parker asks Kane.

Parker discusses the bonus situation, arguing that Brett and Parker are entitled to a full share because everyone else receives twice as much. Dallas reminds them that, like everyone else, they will receive what they are contracted for.

Dallas is interrupted by Ash, who informs him that MU-TH-UR is flashing a yellow light, indicating that the message is intended solely for the captain's eyes.

Meanwhile, Ash, Lambert, Ripley, and Kane are searching for Earth. They discovered they were still short of Zeti II Reticuli when their signals became static.

Ripley summons the crew to the mess hall, where Dallas informs them that they haven't arrived yet; MU-TH-UR has been designed to interrupt their journey home if specific conditions materialise. In this occasion, MU-TH-UR caught a signal from the planetoid LV-426 of unknown origin. Brett and Parker complain, but only after they're told that any systemized message indicating a probable intelligent origin must be probed or their shares will be forfeited completely. Brett and Parker swiftly comply.

Alien Ripley studies the signal, which repeats every 32 seconds, but can't tell if it's an SOS or a stay-away warning. Lambert: zeroes in on the LV-426 signal.

After detaching the Nostromo from the refinery, they arrive 2 kilometres south-west of the source of the systemized transmission, where they meet severe turbulence. It results in a pressure decrease in Intake Three, the loss of a shield, and an electrical fire, which Brett attempts to put out. The Nostromo loses power after landing until the secondary generator kicks in. Parker learns that dust had clogged the intakes, causing the cell to overheat and burn out. After the fire is extinguished, Parker finds that the majority of the ship's problems cannot be resolved outside of drydock, and the secondary load sharing unit, as well as three cells on the 12 module and four panels, are destroyed.

Ripley anticipates that repairs will take 15-20 hours. Sunrise is roughly 20 minutes away, according to MU-TH-UR, and the transmission source is 3000 metres NE. Kane, Lambert, and Dallas resolve to investigate the transmission's origin. Ripley and Ash keep an eye on things and assist Parker and Brett with the repairs.

According to Ash, the atmosphere is primarily composed of inert nitrogen, with a significant concentration of carbon dioxide crystals, as well as methane and frozen ammonia. The source is located near lava rock. It's bitterly cold.

Because they can't see past the ship's floodlights, the search party must rely on their finders tuned to the signal. The slightly decreased gravity removed the weight of suits and tanks, but everyone was still perplexed as to how a world so small could generate such a strong pull. Dallas mentally set aside time for a thorough geological examination. Maybe it was Parker's influence, but the idea of enormous amounts of important heavy metals in this world couldn't be dismissed. Any such finding would, of course, be claimed by Weyland-Yutani because it was done with Weyland-Yutani equipment and on Weyland-Yutani time. However, it could result in some big bonuses. After all, their unintentional stop here could turn out to be advantageous.

After the four panels have been reassembled, Ripley begins attempting to decode the unusual transmission.

Derelict Meanwhile, the search group comes across the Derelict ship, which is the source of the signal. The huge Derelict's lines were sleek but artificial, giving the overall design a disturbing oddity. It towered over them and the nearby rocky outcroppings. They decided it had fallen in the same manner as the Nostromo, belly down, based on what they could see. It was basically shaped like a giant metallic "U," with the U's two horns curved slightly inwards toward one another. One arm was slightly shorter and curved in more strongly than the other.

As they got closer, they noticed that the ship thickened at the base of the U, with a series of concentric mounds ascending to a final dome, like thick plates. Dallas came to the conclusion that the two horns housed the ship's propulsion and engineering systems, while the thicker front end housed living quarters, potentially cargo room, and the bridge. He may have everything exactly backwards, for all they knew. Whatever metal the hull was made of, it glistened in the rising light in an unnaturally vitreous way that suggested no alloy had ever been created by man's hand. Dallas wasn't sure if it was metal or not. Nothing resembling a weld, joint, seal, or other recognisable technique of attaching distinct plates or pieces was discovered during the initial inspection. The alien spacecraft appeared to have grown rather than been created.

The restored communication was loud from this distance, and all three quickly lowered the volume in their helmets. They eventually came to a halt just beneath the three pockmarks in the hull. Behind the external ovals, narrower, darker secondary gaps appeared - perhaps someone else's idea of an airlock. Instead than being joined later in the construction with cumbersome welds and seals, these appeared to be moulded into the fabric of the hull.

The crew lost contact with the ship when they entered the Derelict. The researchers discovered the fossilised remains of the ship's pilot, who had had his chest area blown apart. Dallas discovers a switch that stops the feed from being broadcasted, as well as a way to the deck below.

As Ripley notifies Ash that MU-TH-UR has deciphered part of the signal, it is not an SOS but a warning, Kane climbs into the cargo hold of the Derelict. Ripley urges that they pursue the search party, but Ash advises against it.

Kane observes that the Derelict's cargo hold is scorching, devoid of air, high in nitrogen, and filled with "some type of leathery things" (Ovomorphs). It opened as Kane neared one of the Ovomorphs. A Facehugger appeared out of nowhere and attached itself to Kane's face before Kane could react. After that, Dallas and Lambert hauled Kane back to the Nostromo.

The search crew has returned, Ash announces to Ripley around sunset. Dallas informs Ripley that an organism has attached itself to him, and that after they board the spacecraft, they will take him to the infirmary. RipleyAsh permits them to board the ship.

Kane Facehugged Kane was taken to the ship's medical facilities right away. Ripley joins Parker, Lambert, and Brett as they observe Kane from the observation glass. Despite the fact that Ripley was simply doing her job, Lambert slaps Ripley for refusing to let them into the spacecraft.

Further research reveals that the Facehugger has something down its neck, most likely feeding Kane oxygen. Kane is disabled and in a coma thanks to the Facehugger. Dallas assumes responsibility and instructs Ash to attempt to remove the a href="alien-fhug.html">Facehugger, despite Ash's fears that it may kill Kane.

Ash uses a laser scalpel on one of the Facehugger's digits, but a burst of acidic blood splashes onto the ground. The crew race to stop it from burning through the decks and out the hull. The blood finally stops after it penetrated two levels. Dallas deduces it is molecular acid. Parker notes that the creature has a beautiful defense mechanism: they don't dare kill it.

Parker

Dallas: [looks at a pen being dissolved by Facehugger's body fluid] I haven't seen anything like that except, uh, molecular acid.

Brett: It must be using it for blood.

Parker: It's got a wonderful defense mechanism. You don't dare kill it. Alien. 20th Century Fox. 1979. Movie.

During the time Kane was under Ash's medical supervision, Ash discovered the Facehugger-implanted embryo now gestating inside Kane, but kept the discovery a secret.

While Brett and Parker work on repairing the sip and Twelve Module, Ash reports that the creature is made up of protein olysac-charides and polarised silicon, which gives it long-term resistance to harsh environments.

Ripley confronts Ash over his decision to let Dallas board the ship. In Dallas' absence, she was the senior officer, and Ash had forgotten about the scientific division's basic quarantine law.

June 4, 2122.

Because the Facehugger has vanished after around 20 hours on LV-426, Ash summons Dallas and Ripley to the infirmary. They ultimately discover it, but it is already dead. Ripley thinks they dispose of it, but Ash offers they return it to Earth because it is their first encounter with such a species. Meanwhile, Kane is feverish, but his vital signs are normal.

The shuttle docks with the Nostromo, and the two embark on their return journey to Earth. As a precaution, Parker advises that they put Kane in hypersleep until they reach Earth. When Ash reports that Kane has awoken, Lambert warns that it will be 10 months in cryosleep before they can reach Earth.

Chestburster

Kane's chest hurts during dinner. He starts convulsing as a Chestburster tears through his ribs and kills Kane — right where Parker said he "looked dead." Dallas orders the immediate region to be cordoned off so they can hunt and kill the creature after the shock of witnessing it emerge and run away.

Dallas confronts Ash, inquiring as to why the kiande amedha was allowed to survive inside Kane. Dallas believes Ash was aware of the situation since he was watching Kane. Kane denies that he was deliberately allowing the kiande amedha to develop because the monster is clearly hazardous and he didn't want it to survive any longer than the others.

The team was divided into two search parties, each of which used the tracking units that Ash had modified to make the quest easier. The tracking units don't have a long range, but they can detect movement close to them. Brett takes the cattle prods, which will be used to jolt the monster into the netting and subsequently out the air lock. Ripley found something in C Level, but nothing within 5 metres of them is scanned. They prepare the net and wait for the creature, but Jones is the only one they catch. Ripley informs Brett that releasing Jones is too late because the cat may trip their trackers again.

Alien Brett pursues Jones and discovers the shedded flesh of the Chestburster. As he studies the fully fledged adult kiande amedha, it kills him. Ripley and Parker arrive too late after hearing Brett scream. Parker informs Dallas that it has grown and has vanished through a cooling vent with Brett when they reconnect at the mess hall. The air shafts have been used to move it around. Ash cautions against using weapons because the beast is self-regenerating and possesses corrosive blood.

Because the ducts exit at the main air lock, where there is only one opening on the way, Dallas believes they may use them to their advantage. If that's not enough, Ripley suggests driving it through the lock and blasting it into space. Despite the fact that nothing seems to bother it since it adapts so well, Ash points out most animals avoid heat and fire. Parker could repair three to four incinerators in a matter of hours. Parker and Lambert will be in charge of the maintenance level exit, while Ripley and Ash will be in charge of the air lock.

Mother Dallas returns to MU-TH-UR with a request for a technique to capture or terminate kiande amedha, but MU-TH-UR is unable to respond due to a lack of data. As Dallas enters the air ducts, Ripley keeps an eye on him from the Air Lock vestibule. Parker and Lambert are waiting for the auxiliary door to open.

As Dallas advances deeper into the ducts, Parker takes a reading on him. When Dallas reaches a repair intersection, Lambert begins to pick up two signals. The second signal starts to approach Dallas' location. Dallas sprints away, but he crashes into the kiande amedha. Parker had left without a trace by the time he arrived at Dallas' last known location, leaving only his incineration device behind. Despite Ripley's vote to stick with Dallas's plan, Lambert suggests they abandon ship and take flight, but the Narcissus only has room for three people. As a result, they decide to carry on with Dallas' plan, level after level, laser-sealing every bulkhead and vent in the process.

Ripley turns to Ash for an explanation, but Ash says he's still gathering information. Now that she is in authority, Ripley decides to consult MU-TH-UR. She visits Lambert, and the two women acknowledge that neither of them has slept with Ash and that they got the idea he was never interested. Ripley consults MU-TH-UR, who ultimately informs her about Special Order 937, which is only for the eyes of the scientific division officer.

When Ash comes, he notices Ripley attempting to learn about Special Order 937 and attacks her. He is faster, and stronger than she is. He's going to suffocate her by putting a magazine down her mouth, but Lambert and Parker intervene. They discover that Ash is an android during the conflict.

Ripley discovers the truth by attaching Ash's head to a separate power supply: Despite the fact that the kiande amedha was a killer, Weyland-Yutani despatched the Nostromo to retrieve it due to its value. They won't be able to kill the creature, according to Ash, because it is a perfect organism matched only by its ferocity. Ash professes to "admire" the purity of the kiande amedha, a being devoid of sorrow, conscience, or morality.

lambert Ash

Ash: You still don't understand what you're dealing with, do you? Perfect organism. Its structural perfection is matched only by its hostility.

Lambert: You admire it.

Ash: I admire its purity. A survivor... unclouded by conscience, remorse, or delusions of morality. Alien. 20th Century Fox.

Ripley agrees to Lambert's initial plan of blowing up the ship and escaping in the shuttle after Parker incinerates Ash's skull and remains.

While Ripley sets everything else in motion, Parker and Lambert go find coolant for the shuttle's life support system. Ripley starts a 10-minute countdown on the bridge and locates Jones. Meanwhile, the kiande amedha tracks down Parker and Lambert and kills them, leaving Ripley and Jones alone.

Ripley finds the kiande amedha on her way to the shuttle and rushes back to the bridge to stop the countdown, but she is too late. Ripley has no choice but to return to the shuttle, where Narcissus disengages the shuttle and abandons the mothership after failing to locate the kiande amedha.

Nostromo When the ship explodes, Ripley and Jones prepare for hypersleep when she discovers the kiande amedha napping inside the shuttle. She slips into a spacesuit and discreetly jets to the supply room. She yanks the kiande amedha from its hiding place and unlocks the shuttle doors. The kiande amedha gets sucked from the room but manages to cling to the doorframe. She attacks the kiande amedha with a harpoon. This causes it to fall out of the shuttle. The harpoon gun gets stuck in the shuttle doors as it closes. Outside, the kiande amedha reaches the engine exhausts with the tether line and climbs in. Ripley, on the other hand, fires the engine, killing the kiande amedha.

Ripley, the last survivor of the Nostromo, moves to her hypersleep pod with Jones after repressurizing the cabin.

Ripley

Ripley: Final report of the commercial starship Nostromo, third officer reporting. The other members of the crew - Kane, Lambert, Parker, Brett, Ash, and Captain Dallas - are dead. Cargo and ship destroyed. I should reach the frontier in about six weeks. With a little luck, the network will pick me up. This isRipley, last survivor of the Nostromo, signing off.
