Royce: "There is no hunting like the hunting of a man. And those who've hunted armed men long enough, and like it, never really care for anything else thereafter."

Isabelle: That's pretty poetic. Did you come up with that all by yourself?

Royce: No, actually. That was Hemingway. The Predator. 20th Century Fox. 2018. Movie. Ernest Hemingway, “On the Blue Water,”, 1936. Print.

The Yautja regarded pyode amedha ("soft meat", i.e., humans) amongst their most worthy prey. Compared to kiande amedha, however, hunting the pyode amedha is not as exciting as it had once been. The pyode amedha's most worthy prey are their military forces. They have found honor anew in hunting soldiers of the Colonial Marine forces. The pyode amedha's new advances in technology and weaponry have made them worthy prey for years. But their most powerful asset is their intellect. A few have even outsmarted some of the hunters.

Now, a few Clan leaders and Elders hold the pyode amedha as equals. Some have been brash enough to mark a pyode amedha as a hunter (ie, Machiko Noguchi and Lex Woods). Such practices were once looked-down upon, but now it is so widely accepted by the Elders that it is only through erratic, rather than dishonorable.

Prey

"Oomans were toolfolk, had weapons equal to those of the Yautja, and were, if the stories could be believed, the ultimate pyode amehda. Soft Meat. But with deadly stingers, the oomans. A true test of skill." Aliens vs Predator: Prey. Steve / Stephanie Perry, May 1994. Bantam Spectra, Print.

The very notion of performing kv'var (exercises) on a world where pyode amedha had settled stirs a Yautja's blood. At the very least, hiding their activities from them would give the Yautja a sense of superiority.

Yautja have kept a low profile, and their maneuvers through human as well as universal history has been veiled with secrecy. That, after all, had been part of their game.

When the Engineers visited Earth in 3.2 Billion BC, the "Sacrifice Engineer" was chosen by the elders of his race to serve as a sacrifice in order to seed the planet with life. He stood over a waterfall and after seeing a ship, removed his cloak and ingested an unknown substance that was given to him by the elders. His entire body structure began to dissolve and he fell into the waterfall, seeding the planet with his DNA, and hastening evolution upon Earth. Despite that the Sacrifice Engineer was responsible for the creation of the human race, it seems his race did not hold any positive regard for their descendants.

There have been peaceful relations between the Yautja and pyode amedha (humans). For centuries, the Yautja maintained a presence on Earth and have quietly influenced pyode amedha (human) history and culture. The Yautja arrived on Earth in 10,000 BC, where they teach pyode amedha (humans) to build pyramids and are subsequently worshipped as gods. At the Antarctica pyramid, young Yautja hunt kiande amedha as part of a rite of passage. For this purpose, the Yautja capture a Queen and hold it captive in the Antarctica pyramid by chains, forced to produce Ovomorphs. The Queen stays in hibernation when not producing Ovomorphs, until the Yautja warriors arrive again. As tribute to their off-world dieties, the pyode amedha (humans) sacrifice themselves for these hunts by becoming hosts for the facehuggers.

De Rosa Lex Woods

Sebastian de Rosa: Thousands of years ago, these hunters found a backwater planet. They taught humans how to build, and were worshiped as gods. Every hundred years, the gods would return. And when they did, they would expect a sacrifice. Humans were used to breed the ultimate prey. The hunters would battle with these great serpents to prove themselves worthy to carry the mark. But if the hunters lost, they made sure nothing survived. An entire civilization wiped out overnight.

Alexa Woods: So, the humanoids, the hunters, they brought those creatures here to hunt?

Sebastian de Rosa: And they use us like cattle. We're hosts for them to breed. The heat bloom was designed to lure us down here. This whole thing was a trap. Without us, there could be no hunt. Alien vs Predator. 20th Century Fox, 2004. Movie.

One theory suggests that the Yautja are the creators or the inspiration of some known human civilizations such as the Egyptians and the Aztecs from teaching pyode amedha (humans) of architecture and other technologies.

Furthermore it has been seen that pyode amedha (humans) have been noted by the Yautja as being warriors in their own right.

Native Americans, peoples who are indigenous to the Americas, are also known as American Indians or First Nations. The name Indian was first applied to them by Christopher Columbus, who believed mistakenly that the mainland and islands of America were part of the Indies, in Asia.

Natives seems to have a natural affiliation with Yautja. They can sense them, like dogs can.

Billy Sole Billy was a 'Kit Carson' scout. Half-Sioux, half-Italian from Louisiana, where he used to hunt coon with his brother. His hair is 2 inches longer than regulation. Lean, incredibly fast. Carries a M-203. He has 13 years of combat duty (beginning in 1974), surviving the worst trench wars from Angola to Cambodia. Just as they depart on their rescue mission to South America, "sensed" Jungle Hunter's presence, though he couldn't pinpoint the location Later, just after Dillon takes Anna as hostage, Billy again senses Jungle Hunter's presence. Further on, Billysenses Jungle Hunter, even enters a trance to learn more about the creature, yet learns nothing.

Corporal Enoch Nakai Nakai is a Navajo/Metis Indian. His brother was born stillborn; his mother died during labor. His father abandoned him, giving Nakai up for adoption. His grandfather was a yatadi (medicine man). Stationed at Cole Army Base. His 3-day pass (which he requested a month prior) was denied until they discovered a Yautja ship nearby, and Nakai ran into the pilot. He managed to sense the Yautja before the Yautja began firing, and thus lived. Sergeant Coates and Colonel Athelry pushed his 3-day pass effective the next day. When the Yautja destroyed the Base by exploding his ship, Nakai went back to help kill the creature, which he alone did.

Enoch Nakai's Ancestor: Enoch's grandfather reveals that his father also faced off with the Yautja in the Old West. However, the Yautja was not after the Native Americans this time, but cowboys working for an oil company and harassing the local Indians. A single Yautja took down the oilers camp and was wounded in the process. The captive Native Americans were freed from the camp and a government agency questioned them later, mirroring the OWLF that emerged 75 years later.

Aztecs: In 2000 BC the Yautja ruled a part of Central America and were worshipped as gods by the Aztecs. There is no evidence of the Yautja hunting these humans, but they were used as slave labor to build pyramids and breed kiande amedha. The kiande amedha were then hunted as part of a blooding ritual for the young Yautja. The Yautja rule did not last long as a kiande amedha infestation got out of hand and the Yautja were forced to either self-destruct or leave the planet for a time.

The Yautja occasionally team up with humans due to circumstance and the need to battle against a common enemy - most often the kiande amedha.

golden-angel Golden Angel / Raphael Adolini: Greyback (aka the Golden Angel) had a short alliance with a human named Captain Raphael Adolini. In 1718, Adolini had to fight his mutinous crew after they had recently sacked a church, killing its priest, and stole the sacraments because Adolini intended to return the stolen goods. In the ensuing battle, a watching Yautja, Golden Angel, joins the fray, fighting back-to-back with Adolini. Together they attack the rebellious crew with an extendible sword. At the end of the skirmish, Golden Angel and Adolini are about to battle one-on-one when Adolini is shot in the back by a surviving crew member who was hiding. Denied his trophy, Golden Angel blasts the crew member away. Dying, Adolini whispers "Take it..." to Golden Angel, throwing his flintlock pistol. On the pistol bore the inscription "Raphael Adolini 1715." With Adolini dead, Golden Angel respectfully buries Adolini and leaves the dead Captain his extendable sword... "Take it".

Big Mama / Ash Parnall: The female Yautja called Big Mama was hunting Caryn Delacroix, but soon joined forces with her when she was revealed to be the mysterious Ash Parnall. More human mercenaries link up with them, but there is also an unlikely alliance - the Alien Queen of Samara station also joins the band of misfits to fight against a rogue AI called Toy. At the end, a human-Predator-kiande amedha hybrid is born and also shows sympathy for joining Big Mama and her allies.

Lex Woods scar Scar / Alexa Woods: In 2004, after sparing Alexa's life, Scar noticed that the woman is formidable and has killed a kiande amedha by herself. They help each other escape the temple and Scar even decided to burn the blooding mark on her cheek. Together they fight and defeat the Queen, during which Scar is killed.

pred-dredd Cursed Earth Yautja / Judge Dredd: When Judge Dredd investigated the crimes of Dr. Reinstöt in Cursed Earth, he encountered a trio of Yautja hunting the same man. While they had a harmless brawl at first, they quickly realized the potential of joining forces. Among other crimes, Dr. Reinstöt had sent his mutant minions to hunt and capture a fourth brother of the Yautja, who was then used as a host for a Predalien. In the end, Judges Dredd and Anderson together with the Yautja caught up with Dr. Reinstöt, who had at that point mutated into an Alien Queen. He died in a fiery explosion and the remaining Yautja left Earth thanking and praising the Judges for helping him.

ahab-galgo Ahab / Galgo: Ahab and Galgo were two rogue warriors from opposing species. At first, Ahab needed Galgo for his ship and knowledge, but later came to appreciate him as a soldier and comrade. Ahab dreamed of hunting and killing an Engineer and together they reached that goal on LV-223. After taking the trophy of the Engineer, Ahab and Galgo lived on the planet for more than a year, even establishing a settlement. Later, they fight more kiande amedha and Engineers. The duo finally parted ways after Ahab found a new clan for himself.

sandrad Hunter and Warrior Yautja / Dutch Schaffer / Linn Kurosawa: In 1994 (in an alternate timeline), San Drad was overrun by kiande amedha escaping from a secret Weyland-Yutani facility. Leading the fight against them were Lieutenant Linn Kurosawa and a cyborg version of Dutch Schaeffer. They were joined by two Yautja - Hunter and Warrior, who had come to Earth to enjoy a hunt. Together they battled waves of kiande amedha, infested humans and even a Mad Yautja. In the end, they helped clear the infestation by remotely crashing a Weyland-Yutani ship into the facility.

hplanet Dachande and Machiko Noguchi: Dachande was the leader of a hunting party on the planet Ryushi when things went terribly wrong and he lost the support of his clanmates. He saw the potential of Machiko Noguchi, a survivor and probably the best human warrior of the human colony. Together they fought waves of kiande amedha and took down the Alien Queen, although Dachande was mortally wounded in the process. Dachande blooded the woman and she joined the Yautja for a year of further adventures.

emmisary Emissary Yautja / Loonies: The Emissary Yautja were two Yautja from the same clan as Fugitive and Upgrade Yautja. They had defected from their clan in 2017 to warn humanity about the upcoming invasion by their clan. They were living in the Project Stargazer base and had their own private game preserve near the base, which they hunted in during the night. They helped the remaining Humans to fight off Upgrade Yautja as well as other Yautja-animal hybrids, but were killed by the Upgrade Yautja.

Three World War Yautja / Colonial Marines: Years after leaving the Yautja hunting party, Machiko Noguchi was involved with another team up of humans and Yautja. This time, a clan of Killer Yautja was using captured kiande amedha as war slaves and causing trouble both for Colonial Marines and regular Yautja. Machiko facilitated the team up and the two sides converged on Ryushi to capture a Queen and use her against the Killers. After this, the shaky alliance hit a beachhead on Caparis VII with multiple ships and used the Queen to gain control back for the kiande amedha. The Colonial Marines and Yautja were victorious and the Killer clan defeated. Machiko lost her blooding mark on her forehead, as punishment for disrespecting the Yautja.

Rage War Yautja / Colonial Marines: In the 27th century, hundreds of Yautja ships, including dozens of clans formally joined the Colonial Marines and Weyland-Yutani in an all-out war against the elusive Rage. The deal was brokered by Kalakta, leader of the entire species who was thousands of years old. The Rage was an offshoot of humans who left human colonies hundreds of years prior and chose to return in advanced ships and tamed kiande amedha to invade the Solar System. The alliance started out uneasy but became very successful as the Rage was defeated.

The Samurai and the Yautja have a special bond. The Yautja have faced the Samurai on numerous occasions throughout history and see them as worthy adversaries. Some Yautja have dressed up as Samurai, either out of admiration or because their armour is more practical.

hanzo falconer Hanzo vs. Falconer: The Super Yautja was sent to the Game Preserve Planet to hunt down a bunch of mercenaries and murders. Hanzo, a Yakuza enforcer and a descendant of Hattori Hanz, a famous 16th-century Samurai fighter, was one of these assassins. Although Hanzo wasn't a Samurai, the Yakuza share many of the same warrior values, including the use of a katana sword. On an empty grass field, he fought Falconer, giving others time to flee. He had the upper hand for the majority of the battle, hurting Falconer on multiple occasions. Hanzo slumped on the ground dead after his final strike to the Yautja, getting a lethal chest wound.

Feudal Japan Samurai: A Yautja clan showed an interest in Samurai during the feudal period in mediaeval Japan (18th century). They began by attacking a group of senior warriors who had previously put down their swords to pursue more softer techniques. Before they all died, the old men battled valiantly. The shogun ordered his army of thousands of samurai warriors into battle against dozens of Yautja to put an end to this enormous insult. The bloodbath on the plains killed almost all of the humans, as well as several Yautja. More efforts were taken to prevent further carnage.

Juta Tanaka: Juta Tanaka was a martial arts instructor who lost his sight when he was ten years old. When his students were massacred in his dojo, he began to have visions of the Yautja and 18th-century samurai. He had a mystical link to the Yautja, it turned out. Tanaka was an ancestor of the old Samurai, and he was chosen to be the one who defeated them in single combat, putting an end to the centuries of mass slaughter. Soon after, he was attacked by a selected Yautja and a katana combat ensued. Despite being blind and injured, Juta triumphed and was hailed by a band of Yautja who announced the end of the long-running blood conflict.

liyatsen Gideon Suhn Lee: Gideon Suhn Lee (nee Li Yat Sen) was a Japanese techno-baron living in Tokyo. Secretly, he was 700 years old and had managed to prolong his life by eating body parts of the Yautja, especially their hearts. During his long life, he had embraced the Samurai warrior ways, wielding a Katana and collecting old Ronin artifacts. Gideon assembled a team of Yautja hunters, to capture another Yautja, either dead or alive. Joining the team in the sewers of Tokyo, they encountered both kiande amedha and Yautja. After having a short fight with a Yautja using his samurai sword, Gideon's head was taken as a trophy and his long life ended in the gutter.

subotai Subotai: Subatai was a centuries-old samurai with connections to the Yautja race, nicknamed the Dragons. As a young man, he killed a novice Yautja but was gravely wounded by his master and left for dead. A wise sensei fed him a heart of a Yautja, each being able to extend the life of a human by 200 years. While being almost immortal during the present time, he still wanted revenge on the Yautja. He had his chance while helping out the Yautja hunter team named Spearhead. Subotai and the master Yautja had a duel with katanas in an ancient forest. Surprisingly, the duel did not end with a death, Subotai sliced off the Yautja's hand and the Dragon escaped.

Samurai Shinnok: The Tarkatan Yautja fought through the bloody tournament to reach a Samurai-skilled Shinnok, the Elder God of Death. After defeating him in a brutal duel, the Yautja became the Apex Yautja, gaining the power of sorcery and starting a mass slaughter through all the realms.

samurai-pred Fireteam's Samurai Yautja: A Japanese legend tells of a demon falling from the sky on the hottest days. Each year, scores of Samurai warriors would fall to this demon and these hunts would last for centuries. The Samurai Yautja came with their own version of a Katana, not a trophy that was taken from a fallen human.

bigred Big Red: Big Red was another Yautja who loved Samurai, having an affinity for the Japanese warrior culture. He came to Gotham City to fight the Dark Knight. Big Red came with two Katana swords, an ornamental belt and, golden wristblades, which were untraditionally placed on his left gauntlet. After chasing down an escaped Joker to the Gotham City docks, the clown was dragged away by a kiande amedha. Batman then engaged the kiande amedha but it was blown away by a Yautja. Batman and Big Red then have an elongated fight, before more Yautja appear.

The Vikings are a great match for the Yautja, sharing a similar warrior lifestyle revolving around battles and honor. Their connection seems more grounded, unlike the Yautja's spiritual connection with the Samurai or Native Americans. The Yautja have fought these Nordic combatants on a few occasions, and some Yautja have even chosen weapons and armor based on the Vikings.

Skeld's Keep: A band of Vikings headed by Jarl the Sword's Son went on a quest to conquer the lands of Skeld the Boarstooth. They were secretly observed by four Yautja on board a hidden ship. When the Vikings reached the keep of their enemy, they were attacked by crazed humans infected by a strange disease. Eventually, the Yautja joined in the skirmish but resorted to limited armor and melee weapons to stay honorable. In the end, only four of the seventeen Vikings and one of the Yautja survived. The Yautja named Kata'nu left his helmet to the men as a sign of respect, who then proceeded to burn Skeld's Keep to the ground.

viking-hg Fireteam's Viking Yautja: The Viking Yautja was bigger and slower than other Yautja, and sported a giant battle-axe. During ancient times when Vikings conquered areas across their borders, they attracted the Yautja from the skies. When the legends of the Yautja spread, the Norsemen saw an opportunity to have an honorable death, or perhaps even rise to glory by taking down this godlike creature. The feud between the Vikings and Yautja lasted for centuries, with both sides serving losses.

valkyrie Valkyrie: This female Yautja wielded a giant two-handed Norse Hammer that dealt great close-range damage but was overall faster and leaner than the Viking Yautja. She was a mighty Yautja avenger sent upon the Norsemen to exact revenge for her fallen clan-mates. She was their best warrior and no Viking could ever defeat her. The Valkyrie seemed to be familiar with the faith of Odin and it was her privilege to send men to Valhalla, offering an honorable death.
