The Queen exhibits the general structure of an adult Kiande Amedha, but continues to grow and develop after reaching maturity, depending on her food supply. It has many of the same anatomical features, like a black oily skin, an exoskeleton and Acidic Blood, the tail, an inner jaw and dorsal appendages. The Queen also has high heel protrusions from its feet.

The most prominent feature is a huge crest covering the head, about 2-3 feet, and they vary from queen to queen. The Auriga Queen's crest, for example, was a blend of green and brown.

The 2004 Antarctica Queen's basic physique was different, more "streamlined" in appearance. Its over-all size was 6 meters (20 feet) tall. Other differences included the absence of the "high-heel" protrusions on its legs, additional spines on its head, and a thinner waist.

A unique deviation from the adult Kiande Amedha is a second, smaller pair of arms on the underside of the chest.

Every nest usually contains a Queen that will instruct the other Kiande Amedha on their duties, acting somewhat like a Hive Mind, via screams and telepathic connection, which can cover great distances. The Queen manages the Hive, and cares for her young. Her primary concern is the lives of future young, whom she will protect at the cost of the lives of her brood.

The Queen creates and lay Ovomorphs through the use of the ovipositor on their lower torso, similar to a queen termite's, and can detach from it should circumstances require it. Unlike insect queens, there appears to be no need for Drones to fertilize a Queen's Ovomorphs.

The Hormone Storm is a term used to describe the process of a Drone turning into a Queen when the necessity arises.

Its formidable strength and toughness make it a lethal opponent in combat. A Queen can endure severe punishment from conventional weapons and withstand environmental conditions that could kill a human and even an adult kiande amedha, such as vacuum, extreme cold, pressure and fire.

Usually, Royal Jelly infused an Ovomorph to trigger the development of a Queen embryo inside the Facehugger. Such Facehuggers then impregnate a host with the embryo from where the Queen develops to its full size in the same way as a normal adult.

Old Queens leaves the Hive with a handful of Sentries and Warriors and goes in search of a new Hive when the new Queen Chestburster emerges. The Queen will build this Hive up until it is capable of protecting another new Queen, and will then move on; in this way, a Queen can expand the area controlled by Kiande Amedha steadily. The new Queens left behind have full Hives to protect them. If the Queen of a Hive dies, surviving Kiande Amedha will attempt to implant a Queen embryo in a suitable living host. They will be quite ferocious in their defense of this host, and the Queen Chestburster the host carries.

Dachande: "Tall she was, the queen, twice his own height, probably four times his weight. Black as a nestcleaner's hands, gleaming dully under the lights, the queen looked like a giant zabin bug, with the addition of a long segmented tail and smaller supplemental arms jutting from her torso. Her comb rose high like antlers, flat and flaring, and she had two sets of needle-toothed jaws, one nesting inside the other and able to extrude a span from her mouth to grab like pincers ... she would be a formidable opponent, fast, powerful, intelligent." A kiande amedha Queen bred from an unknown creature that appears in the Tuva Settlement ranch. It had a black exoskeletal carapace and large avian-like talons used for snatching prey as it swoops down, its wings are membranous and instead of a broad head crest it featured a smooth Drone-like cranium with a row of blunt spines running along the saggital plane.

Dr. Niels Reinstöt (having previously hybridized himself with spider DNA) transforms into a human/spider/kiande amedha Queen Tribrid after injecting himself with a concoction of kiande amedha DNA he extracted from the skull.

Dr. Reinstöt also had four of his Ani-Men (sentient human/animal hybrids) impregnated by Facehuggers that spawned four kiande amedha from various animals - elephant, rhino, deer, and bear

Cloned Queen / "Auriga Queen"

References
Clone Queen
  • Alien Resurrection. 20th Century Fox, 1992. Movie.

The Auriga Queen began as immature Chestburster gestating within Ellen Ripley after a super Facehugger impregnated her by prior to her arrival on Fiorina 161 in 2179. Ripley threw herself into the giant furnace rather than allowing Weyland-Yutani access to the embryo. Weyland-Yutani was able to obtain Ripley's DNA, which had already mixed with the Queen's DNA.

By 2377, on-board the USM Auriga, human scientists used Ripley's DNA that was preserved by Weyland-Yutani and attempted to clone Ripley in order to obtain a Queen Chestburster. However, almost all of the numerous attempts to clone her ended in failure, as the mixture between human and kiande amedha DNA caused severe genetic disorders to the clones.

By 2380, scientists successfully surgically removed the Auriga Queen from the cloned Ripley8, grew rapidly, and started to lay Ovomorphs. Unlike other Queens, the Auriga Queen procreated with a womb. The womb opened up with a slit that ran all over the stomach. Her arms are shorter and stick backwards from the first joint.

Like the 2004 Antarctica Queen, when the Auriga Queen's offspring escaped, they freed her and she made a nest near the USM Auriga's docking area where the Newborn was born from the Auriga Queen's womb. The Newborn rejected the Auriga Queen as its true mother, and tore off the front of her head with its bare hands, killing her.

Queen Mothers are the supreme rulers of the Kiande Amedha species, even over Queens and Empresses. They control tens of even hundreds of thousands of Kiande Amedha.

Queen Mothers, being egg-layers, lack a Queen's large head crest, bearing a common Drone's cranium with a single line of spines on the dorsal surface and several tentacle-like appendages flanking their mouths, much like the Rogue King.

Queen Mothers are telepathic and empathic. They can contact other Hives over vast distances (including nearby planets) without the need of Sentries or Hive/web vibrations. One Queen Mother could meld to the minds of humans, inducing nightmares and "communicating" with them.

Instead of Praetorians, Palatines protect Queen Mothers.

After encountering a red-skinned Hive led by the Red Queen Mother, massive civil warfare broke out between the black Hive and the red Hive for dominance. A USCM fleet (financed by the Grant Corporation) visited Hiveworld to retrieve the dead Black Queen Mother's Royal Jelly to synthesize Xeno-Zip. The USCM nuked the "red Hive," distracting the Drones of the "black" nest while they extracted Royal Jelly was being extracted. They also shot the new Queen Mother after she killed a scientist during the extraction.

In 2198, the ancient Queen Mother on the Samara Station was the only one left of her Hive. She is old and cannot reproduce. Like the Queen that pretended to work with General Spears, Ash Parnall forced the Queen Mother to work together with her and the female Yautja, Big Mama when Parnall infected herself with the Queen Mother's last remaining royal Ovomorphs. The Queen Mother fought against the artificial intelligence computer mainframe "TOY". While cocooned, a white hybrid Facehugger impregnated her, a rare occurrence. During a battle with the Hybrid King, the Queen Mother grabbed hold of him, placed him in front of her chest as the Chestburster erupts, killing them both.

The Empress

The Empress is a larger variant of the Queen and boasts a larger crest that has an addition pair of straight spines that flank the three spires of its crest. There are not as many curves to the crest as there are with the crests of other Queen; there are much more geometric lines and angles.

The need for an Empress arises when there are several Hives sharing the same territory. The Hives will then fight for supremacy, and after the elimination of the inferior Hive's Queen, the victorious Queen transforms into an even more monstrous incarnation and takes up control of the remains of both Hives, effectively merging them into a single, larger kiande amedha society.

In 2179, the marines from the Sephora encountered a kiande amedha specimen aboard the Sulaco that looked similar to a Queen, but was far larger, possibly classifying it as an Empress.

By 2231, one Empress was an old and larger Queen born on the planet LV-1201. The Empress commanded kiande amedha on the whole planet. Dr. Eisenberg captured her and transported around the planet to escape the Kiande Amedha that she commanded to free her. A nameless Kiande Amedha released the Empress and had revenge on Dr. Eisenberg by removing his limbs and cocooning him into the Hive.

Matriarch / "Hag Queen"

AvP
  • Aliens versus Predator. Rebellion Developments/Fox Interactive, April 1999. Computer software.

The "Matriarch" is the oldest known Queen, perhaps thousands or perhaps hundreds of thousands of years old. Her flesh has whitened and wrinkled with age. The crest of the Matriarch has also expanded with age: two pairs of spires fan out to the sides of the crest in addition to the three that all queens seem to have at maturity, and a bony ridge of spines runs down the center of the crest sweeping towards the end of it.

The face of the Matriarch on BG-386 was extensively scarred as well and missing chunks of flesh from around the mouth and the carapace that protects the face when it is retracted has holes in it that resemble being eaten away by acid. The Yautja originally captured her c189 AD and imprisoned on BG-386s. They forced her to lay Ovomorphs so that the Yautja may hunt the resultant Kiande Amedha offspring. Thousands of years later, Weyland-Yutani discovered and captured her for study, but later escaped thanks to the actions of Specimen 6. She subsequently set up a Hive at the nearby Freya's Prospect colony, where Rookie killed her.
